Bureau of Water Supply Natural Resources Division, Ecological Research & Analysis section. The uninterrupted continuation of this contract is needed to keep providing services to eradicate Hydrilla from the New Croton Reservoir by performing services including performing annual surveys of Hydrilla beds, chemical treatment, perform diving surveys to install or remove benthic barriers and to identify all other aquatic plants encountered during the surveys. Hydrilla was first discovered in small patches in the New Croton Reservoir in 2014 and by 2016 it had spread to nearly a third of the suitable habitat in the western reservoir. If left unmanaged, the Hydrilla can spread into other reservoirs, including unfiltered reservoirs, which could lead the DEP to exceed regulatory standards for disinfection by-products.
