In Brooklyn, the bridge provides direct access to Interstate 278 – the Brooklyn/Queens Expressway, while the western end of the bridge provides access to the street network in Lower Manhattan. The Bridge is a component of the National Highway System (NHS) and is identified as New York State Urban, Functional Class 12 – Principal Arterial Expressway (also FHWA Code 2)
