The City of New York (the “City”) acting through the New York City Department for the Aging (DFTA) is issuing this Request for Information (“RFI”) to gather input as to the availability of and interest in helping the City expand a unique relationship-based home sharing program as part of a 2018 Mayoral Initiative. Identified as an alternative path to finding an affordable place to live in New York City, DFTA’s Home Sharing Program was targeted for expansion in the FY2019 budget. The Home Sharing Program (the “Program”) pairs ‘hosts’ who have extra space in their apartments or houses with a “guest,” i.e., a person seeking an affordable place to live in a roommate type situation. One or both of the individuals forming the pair must be aged 60 and older. The ultimate goal of the City to create 1,000 matches annually. DFTA is not looking to replace the current contractor. DFTA is seeking to understand the availability of vendors to assist DFTA in reaching its goal either through operating the same program or one similar in nature.
