Description
Governors Island is a 172 acre island in the heart of New York Harbor (the “Island”) between Lower Manhattan and the Brooklyn waterfront. A former military base, the Island is a now popular seasonal destination open to the public from May 1st to October 31st (the “Public Access Season”). The Trust for Governors Island (“TGI”), a nonprofit corporation created by the city of New York, is responsible for the redevelopment and operation of the 150 acre portion of the Island. TGI’s mission is to transform Governors Island into a vibrant resource for New York City, with extraordinary public open space as well as educational, not-for-profit, and commercial facilities.

Governors Island utilizes a sewage pump station to discharge sanitary waste through a 14” force main under Buttermilk Channel to a sewer main in Brooklyn. This pump station, constructed in 1971, was damaged during Superstorm Sandy in October 2012. The purpose of this RFP is to procure a contractor to perform renovations to this pump station. Proposed renovations include improvements to all components of the pump station including, but not limited to, piping, valves pumps, comminutors, sump pump, HVAC systems, MEP systems, lighting, structural systems, roof replacement, and architectural elements. The design also includes installation of a bypass connection on the force main to allow the use of a mobile pump to bypass the entire system in the event of a catastrophic failure.
